Microbiology

“You have to be pure in your heart if you are about to isolate Mycoplasma.”

In our laboratory we use up to twenty different commercial and in-house culture media to reach the highest success in isolation of different Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma and Acholeplasma species. We gained substantial experience over the years in the tricks, additives, incubation conditions, purification and handling of the different species.

We have capacities and equipment for the long-term storage of the clinical isolates in our biobank, hence we can prepare and provide the isolates for external companies (e.g. autovaccine production) upon the request of the client.

General reason of Mycoplasma isolation is the antibiotic sensitivity testing, the determination of minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC). Our laboratory is equipped for the MIC testing of a wide range of fluoroquinolones, tetracyclines, aminoglicosides, aminocyclitols, macrolides, lincosamides and pleuromutilins effective against the different Mycoplasma species. In collaboration with pharmacologists we are able to perform pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) analysis as well.
